Install Windows 2012 R2 Failover Cluster

The two-node Windows Server failover cluster used for the SCOM databases will be installed on cluster VSCluster. The two nodes used for this cluster are Node1 and Node 2.


  • Windows Server 2012 R2 should be installed and fully updated
  • Needed SAN disks are by both nodes and multipath is configured.
  • Account on local administrators group on both nodes.

Installation steps

Log on Node1 Start Server Manager.

On the Manage menu, click Add Roles and Features.

On the before you begin page, click Next.

On the Select installation type page, click Role-based or feature-based installation, and then click next.

On the Select destination server page, click the server where you want to install the feature, and then click next.

Don’t change anything, On the Select server roles page, click next.

On the Select features page, select the Failover Clustering check box.

To install the failover cluster management tools, click Add Features, and then click next.

Click next.

On the Confirm installation selections page, click Install.

Wait until you see installation succeeded on your first node name then click close.

Repeat the above steps for the second cluster node.

Repeat the above steps for the second cluster node.

start Server Manager, and then on the Tools menu, click Failover Cluster Manager

In the Failover Cluster Manager pane, under Management, click Validate Configuration.

On the Before You Begin page, click Next

On the Select Servers or a Cluster page, in the Enter name box, enter the NetBIOS name or the fully qualified domain name of a server that you plan to add as a failover cluster node, and then click Add. Repeat this step for each server that you want to add.


On the Testing Options page, click Run all tests (recommended), and then click next.

On the Confirmation page, click Next.

The Validating page displays the status of the running tests.

On the Summary page, do either of the following:

First check the report insure that it’s okay.

Uncheck Create the cluster now option.

Click finish.

Open disk management bring the quorum cluster disk online.

Create new simple volume.

Click next

Input the maximum size of the disk, click next.

Change the drive letter to be Q:

Click next.

Name the volume label, select perform quick format option.

Click finish.

Insure the name of the volume and the drive letter.

On the failover cluster management click into create cluster.

On the Before You Begin page, click Next.

Enter the FQDN for the first node then click add, repeat this again for the second node.


On the Access Point for Administering the Cluster page, do the following:

Enter the cluster name and the IP.

Check add all eligible storage to the cluster finally click finish.

click finish,

Insure that the configuration correct as the print screen.

On the failover cluster management select disk then choose properties.


Change the disk name to ne Quorum and insure the drive letter is Q:

Check the cluster core resources and insure it’s correct.
